What I collect

If you use the contact form, I collect the information you choose to send. This may include your name, email address, organisation, the area you want help with and the message you write.

The website is hosted by Netlify. Like most website hosts, Netlify may process technical information needed to deliver and secure the site, such as IP address, browser information, device information, requested pages, date and time of access and basic server log information.

I do not ask you to send special category data through the contact form. Please do not include sensitive information unless it is genuinely needed for your enquiry.

Why I use it

I use personal data for the following purposes:

  • to receive and reply to your enquiry;
  • to understand what kind of project or support you are asking about;
  • to prepare a proposal, quote or follow-up message if you ask me to;
  • to manage the security, reliability and basic operation of the website;
  • to keep reasonable business records if your enquiry leads to paid work.

The lawful basis is usually legitimate interests. My legitimate interest is to run my freelance business, respond to enquiries and keep the website working securely. If your enquiry leads to a contract or pre-contractual steps, I may also process your data because it is necessary to take those steps or perform that contract.

Who handles the data

I do not sell your personal data. I do not use it for third-party advertising.

This website is hosted by Netlify, which also processes contact form submissions for the site. Netlify stores form submissions in its systems and provides tools for me to review, export and delete them.

Netlify uses spam filtering for form submissions. This helps keep malicious or automated messages away from the contact form.

If we work together, I may also use normal business tools such as email, documents, accounting records or project files. In those cases I only share personal data where it is needed for the work, administration, legal obligations or professional advice.

Because Netlify is an international service provider, personal data may be processed outside the UK. Netlify states that it uses legal mechanisms such as the Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses for relevant international transfers.

Cookies and analytics

This website does not currently use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag, advertising cookies, heatmaps, session recording tools or chat widgets.

The site uses locally hosted fonts and images. It does not need a cookie consent banner in its current form because I am not setting non-essential tracking cookies through the site.

If I add analytics, marketing pixels, embedded media or other tracking technologies later, I will update this policy and add any consent mechanism that is required.

How long I keep it

I keep contact form enquiries only for as long as reasonably needed to respond and manage the enquiry. As a guide, general enquiries are normally deleted within 24 months unless there is a practical reason to keep them for longer.

If your enquiry leads to paid work, I may keep related correspondence, project records, invoices and accounting information for longer where needed for contracts, tax, accounting, legal or business record purposes.

I review stored form submissions periodically and delete old messages that are no longer needed.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have rights over your personal data. Depending on the situation, these may include the right to ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or to object to certain processing.

You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests. If you object, I will stop processing the relevant data unless there is a strong lawful reason to continue.

To make a request, please contact me using the contact form or by writing to the address above. I may need to ask for enough information to confirm your identity before responding.

If you are unhappy with how I handle your personal data, please contact me first so I can try to resolve it. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK supervisory authority for data protection.
